Patient Portal

This page is intended for patients registered on BADBIR to find more information about our Patient Portal. If you are a clinician looking for more information, please visit this Patient Portal information page.

The Patient Portal can be found here:

Information for patients

We have introduced the Patient Portal to provide another method for BADBIR participants to complete questionnaires. Previously, we have only asked you to complete the questionnaires on paper when you've attended a dermatology clinic appointment. However, with more appointments being carried out remotely and to allow more flexibility, we have created the Patient Portal so that the questionnaires can be completed easily from your phone, tablet or computer.

Use of the Patient Portal for completion of our questionnaires is optional – if you prefer to complete questionnaires on paper at your appointment, then you can indicate this to your clinician and continue as before.

Here is an introductory video guide to the portal to demonstrate how to use it:

Frequently asked questions

How do I access the Patient Portal?

To access the Patient Portal for the first time, you will need your:

  • Identification number
  • Date of birth
  • First and last name initials

These three items allow us to confirm that you've been registered with BADBIR by your clinician.

Your identification number can be your NHS number, CHI number (if in Scotland) or your BADBIR study ID number. You should be able to find your NHS/CHI number on any letter or document you have received from the NHS, including prescriptions, test results, and hospital referral or appointment letters. If in doubt, ask your dermatologist or nurse.

If you are in the Republic of Ireland, instead of using an NHS/CHI number, you can use your BADBIR study ID number. You will need to ask your dermatologist or nurse working on BADBIR for this information. The number they give you should be 9 digits long.

After you've provided these, we will ask for your email address and send you a code to verify your account. Once verified, you'll be able to create a password and complete your registration.

You will then be able to log in to the portal to complete the patient questionnaires using your email address and password. The video above demonstrates how to use the portal.

Which questionnaires are on the Patient Portal and what are they for?

The Patient Portal contains the same questionnaires that you would complete on paper at your in-person appointments. These questionnaires help to give us an overview of the severity of your psoriasis and how it impacts your life, and your health in general. Some of the questions may be of a sensitive or personal nature. You don't have to answer all of the questions.

How often should I use the Patient Portal?

You should use the Patient Portal approximately every six months. We will periodically email you a reminder to enter questionnaires through the Portal.

Is my data secure?

The University of Manchester is committed to processing all data securely. Details of how we ensure your data is kept secure and confidential can be found in the Patient Information Sheet. Additionally, more information can be found in the BADBIR study Transparency Notice and the University of Manchester Privacy Notice for Research Participants. Links to all 3 documents can be found at the top of the general patient information page.

The email address and password you use to register with the Patient Portal are only used for the Portal and are not used anywhere else. Your clinician cannot see your email address or password, but will be able to tell if you registered for an account. The BADBIR team cannot see your password.

Your email address will only be used for account registration and for you to receive prompts when study questionnaire entry is due. We will not disclose your email address to any third party.

Who sees the data?

BADBIR staff and clinicians working on BADBIR at your hospital/clinic will be able to see any responses you provide through the Patient Portal.

I've forgotten my password. What should I do?

If you've forgotten your password, you can reset it through the Patient Portal login page, where there is a "Reset your password" link. This link takes you a page where you can enter your email address for the Portal and confirm your date of birth. The database will then email you a new, randomised password. You can use this new password to login to the Portal and then change it to something more memorable via the button in the top-right of the main page.

Please be aware that 5 incorrect attempts at logging into the Portal will cause your account to be locked. If your account is locked, you will need to contact BADBIR to unlock it before you can try again. You can contact the BADBIR team on 0161 306 1896 or at badbir@manchester.ac.uk.

I have other questions about BADBIR or the Patient Portal. Who should I contact?

We have a general patient information page which may answer any questions you have. If you have any other questions about BADBIR or the data we collect, you can ask your clinician during your routine dermatology appointments.

If you're having trouble accessing the Patient Portal, you can contact the BADBIR team on 0161 306 1896 or at badbir@manchester.ac.uk.
