Password policy updates to the BADBIR Database

by | Nov 1, 2023 | News | 0 comments

In our ongoing commitment to maintaining a secure and user-friendly online environment, we are updating our password policy. We kindly request all our users to consider reviewing and enhancing the strength of their passwords in preparation for the new criteria, which will take effect on December 1st, 2023.

Your new password must contain:

  • A minumum of 14 characters
  • At least 1 number
  • At least 1 special character (such as @ _ ! $ ^ %)

To change your password, log into the database and then go to the Manage Account area from the top-right corner of the page. The link to change your password is located here.

Please note that if your existing password already fulfils the new criteria, there is no requirement to change it.

If you do not change your password to meet the new criteria by December 1st, 2023, a forced password reset will occur. Users will be prompted to reset their passwords upon their next login attempt. This process will require them to create a new password that complies with the updated policy.

This update is designed to further strengthen your account’s security while ensuring a smooth transition for all users, and be in line with password policy at the University of Manchester. We appreciate your cooperation and are here to support you in any way we can. If you have any questions or need assistance with password updates, our team is available at badbir@manchester.ac.uk.

Please be aware that we will not send you any direct communication about this password change, such as individual emails asking you to click a link to change your password. We will only notify you of this change as a part of our monthly centre report which you should be receiving routinely.
